Marie Oliva has overseen the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce as its President and CEO for more than 20 years. Starting out, her main objective was to help the economy of the Canal region thrive by helping businesses sustain themselves or grow. Today, the Chamber is renowned for expertise in promoting local businesses through social media, digital promotions (including E-Newsletters with more than 1,500 recipients) and keeping an updated presence on Google, all of which significantly increase customer reach and improve overall operations.

Primarily representing the communities of Bourne, Sandwich, Wareham and parts of Cape Cod, Marie and her staff operate a multi-faceted, membership-based nonprofit boasting more than 400 business members throughout the area. By fostering relationships between businesses, residents and local leaders, the chamber helps create a vibrant, resilient environment where commerce, culture, and community spirit can flourish by promoting tourism through its visitor centers and community engagement through the free concerts and popular Cape Cod Canal Day festival it throws each year.

Over the years, the Chamber has grown in both reach and impact, evolving into a stronger, more dynamic force within the region. What may have started as a smaller operation has expanded through increased membership and broader programming.

Running the chamber has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding parts of Marie’s professional life. For her, there is a genuine pride in seeing local businesses grow, events come to life and the community gain recognition.
